In the IFS it doesn't matter, you can end a line with a vertical tab if you
wish, but programs may or may not do what you want with that (e.g,, I don't
know any program that would accept vertical tab :) )
The "norm" for most open source is LF ( 0x0a)
Many programs will accept CR-LF (0x0d 0x0a)
I know of none that will treat just CR (0x0d) the way the OP wanted.
