Simple answer, no you do not need to worry about cores, or threads in the core etc.
You can code for these things using complex APIs but why?

If the system has multiple cores assigned to it, and the need arises for that level of service, the system will utilize it. Furthermore if you have the partition set up uncapped, then it will continue to use all the resources that are available to it, then when done give them back to the other partitions (there are limits and rules there but not for this discussion)

The number of virtual cores can also affect how applications run, but only up to the limits of the physical cores assigned.
