Good point, also note that the windows themselves need some space between
them.

IIRC I think a single space on each side of each window is enough. So
assuming 2 rows of 3 windows, you'd need
<space>window<space><space>window<space><space>window<space>

That assumes you're not using the GUI windows like Booth's example uses.
The GUI windows take 2 or 3 spaces IIRC.

Also you need room from the edge of the window to its content. Again, I
think 1-character for the text window, a couple for the GUI.

<disclaimer> Depending how you code the display </> you should not have
record formats overlapping.
you should have a "Header" format, and a separate "Footer" format.
overlapping fields could cause the symptoms you describe (show on screen
until other format is written)
