Thanks Rob, and thanks to everyone who replied. My going in position is that the 5250 data stream has been stable for about 50 years.  That being said, I think we need to review secure Telnet, but that's another project for another day.  We have no direct Telnet access outside the firewall so I'm less concerned, but nowadays everything is a threat vector.

Anyway, thanks again to everyone.  I appreciate it!

I'll be honest, I try to stay current with these things. Therefore running
the old stuff has been so long ago I've pretty much forgotten the pain of
working with them.
I think one of the biggest issues with the old IBM Access for Windows was
it's lack of support for currently supported versions of Windows.
There is a nasty gram about it and IBM Console support on IBM i 7.4.
Basically the SSL ciphers are out of date. Therefore I'm betting that if
you're trying to use SSL telnet that will also probably tell you to poop in
your hat and pull it down over your ears.

I could say more about this but I've been taken to the wood shed at work
today about it and I have to clear up some stuff before I say any more.
Suffice to say, stop using unsecured telnet.

Hello all! Long time, no talk. :) Anyway, I work in a shop where we
use all flavors of 5250 emulation. And I do mean all; we use various
versions of ACS, we use IBM Personal Communications (aka iSeries Access
for Windows), we even have one or two desktops with Reflection on them
(don't get me started). We're getting ready to upgrade to 7.4 (whoo
hoo!), but there has been some rumbling that these may or may not work
with 7.4. I found that pretty unlikely since it's a 5250 terminal
emulator, but I just thought I'd ask if anyone is currently running IBM
PC Communications (iSeries Access circa 2009) or an older version of ACS
(say from 2017, 2018 timeframe) with 7.4 or later.

Thanks in advance, everyone.
