3) Assign a TLS certificate to the IBM i SMTP Client application in DCM.

Totally unnecessary for a client application.

And "trusting" the CAs (from steps 1 and 2.... 2 again being unnecessary
unless for some reason you already set up a trust list specifically, which
I doubt anyone does) is one option.. why they haven't added the option to
ignore not trusted CAs is odd as well.

Either way, there are much better options out there for sending email,
especially when everyone is forced to go to OAuth (ie "more secure")
applications.

My 5 cents. (adjusted for inflation).
