I believe that.. and XML (thankfully going away) and even JSON, while they
have "standards", are not really adhering to many of them. I've got many
customers I help consume JSON and they are literally all different (except
the big companies like MS and Google that have very GOOD standards when it
comes to JSON).

All the others roll their own, use arrays when they shouldn't, don't use
arrays when they should, and a whole mess of things that you'd never have
guessed would get by anyone with experience. :)

My customer has paid $3K per year for their EDI translator that they've
used for 20 years, not one update. They only have one transaction, so I
wrote the translator in RPG for 856 for the price of one years maintenance.

The invoice that the vendor sends is ridiculous. No mention of the software
package name. Item#'s and price.

He said. Rewrite your ERP with me and we'll be done in five years or

And then there's the ERP vendor charging 6 figures a year for license and
doing zero, absolutely no, maintenance on the code, just collecting the
fee.
Cheaper to rewrite it.
And BTW hire 20-somethings for the Linux front end and slowly assimilate
them into the IBM i borg.
