They are not. POST means parameters to a (CGI) program on the server are passed on stdin to the program, while GET passes them on the command line. The latter is visible by the URL showing those. Data in the other direction is always sent on stdout by the server.

SQL's new (and not so new) functions ?

If your applications already use SQL, I'd clearly go for that option.
