Each time I'm faced with updating an HMC that is more than a couple of
levels behind I check if it isn't easier to just deploy a new OVA with the
latest version and just re-connect the machines. That is easier of you
don't have users, customization, tasks or other stuff to re-do in the new
HMC.

On your HMC go into Help, About and display the following:
Version: 10
Release: 3
Build Level: 2311290123
Service Pack: 1050
Base version: V10R3
MF71421 - iFix for HMC V10R3 M1050

The link you gave me says that a certain patch has to be the LAST one
listed. It may have said a different version than your on, like
9.2.950
vs
9.2.952 but still, paste it. Don't assume that HMC get's their
supersedes and whatnot in order. May not be the issue but paste it
anyway.

Now, I'm going to assume that you downloaded the PTF to your PC.
Then you unzipped it.
Then you put it on a FTP server in your location (I use an lpar of
IBM i
and put it in the IFS.) I generally use FileZilla to load it from my
PC
to
IBM i so that it automatically figures out the binary and ascii stuff.

Then on your HMC (I generally use a putty client to do this) you ran:
getupgfiles -h myIBMiOrotherftpserver -u rob --passwd mypassword -d
/home/ROB/hmcupdates
chhmc -c altdiskboot -s enable --mode upgrade
hmcshutdown -t now -r
Then you used your VMWare client to watch the HMC reboot and update.
So far, so good?

Reply with the level you are trying to get to. The first place I
would
look is whether you have to put a patch on your current level
first.
This
would be spelled out in the upgrade instructions for the target
release.
Failing that scenario, then I would reread the install
instructions
carefully.
It's been awhile since I upgraded from 9 to 10.
Since you have vHMC make sure you take a snapshot first.

I am now digging in and working through my upgrades.
I am at 9.2.952, wanting to get to v10m<something>.
I am now stuck in the "the file disk1.img appeared to be
missing...."
hole.
reading, and downloading has not given me any good results so
far.

I am thinking I need a patch to my 9.2.952 to get around this
message,
but
I am not for sure what that is.
