Occasionally I want to send a production file to my dev partition for testing. In the past I did this using FTP.

I'm just wondering if SFTP is needed when sending files across partitions?

You can use scp or sftp but to me this seems a waste of CPU cycles for needless encryption.

But: Using scp with key authentication is very comfy, something compelling.
