The nearly impossible scenario: The user does all their data entry from
the system console. You are using a shared session on the HMC. STRSST has
"Allow console takeover" enabled.

Another more likely scenario: User is using a PC. You have access to the
Ninja application which allows you to perform remote support on another's
PC and you go in and take control of their 5250 session. Not sure how well
this behaves if they've locked their screen while they leave the desk.

Tools like STRCPYSCN won't allow you to take control and have really fallen
out of favor since PC based tools for monitoring activity, and even taking
control, have surpassed them.

And, yes, IBM has books from the 60's on developing interactive
applications so as not to leave records locked until it's actually time to
update them. Not that most people paid the caution heed.

Apologies, hit the wrong button.

Many of you probably have the same problem.
From time to time, a user will be in the middle of entering something like
an order when they get distracted, walk away or go home and leave the
session at that point, locking one or more records and objects.
Right now all I can do is end the job. That is not a clean way to do so and
creates other problems.
Way back in the system/38 or early AS/400 days, a vendor provided a
function to take over or log into an active session and allow you to
gracefully exit the program.
Does anyone know how this can be achieved today?

TIA, Darryl Freinkel.
