Rob, on June 13th Douglas Gibbs, IBM i Product Manager, responded to you personally as an IBM Champion and gave you permission to quote him as follows:
Our current plan is to keep the Base Option 31 and deprecate only the DNS server commands. The client commands, including NSLOOKUP, will still be available via Option 31. There is currently no plan for the next release of IBM i to move/remove the DNS client functions and commands to the base nor to remove option 31 entirely.
