Good question.  

Many years ago I used DDM between an AS/400 and a System/36, but never between AS/400 - iSeries - IBM I and an IBM mainframe.

Although I'm not sure where to find them, the following manuals might have relevant information:

- SC21-9529 Distributed Data Management Architecture: Implementation Programmer's Guide 
- SC21-9526 Distributed Data Management Architecture: Reference
