My own conjecture is the fragmentation they are discussing is not the same
thing as the data dispersion in single level storage. Since unstructured
data is growing significantly on the platform, seeing storage segments
getting fragmented due to write/delete/write/update actions is very
possible, particularly now that we have open source object oriented
technology on the system. Not so much at the storage level as in the file
system level. Also I wonder if this also indicates file extensions in
DB2. As low as those numbers in the example were, I'd be hard pressed to
get excited about it. I'll wait for an IBM case where the technician asks
for that information to get too involved with it.
