I am trying to restore a physical file (into another library) and it
always restores as a DDMF pointing back to the original file. I've not
seen this before.

Same here.

Any hint as to why? (both BRMS and RSTOBJ) do the same.

Is dspsavf showing the file correctly?

Just poking in the dark: Was the file probably created as being associated
with a remote system, but using the local system's name?

:wq! PoC
