IIRC a ROWID value is unique even over multiple systems - so there shouldn't be any duplicate values even over multiple partitions - and even in combination with Db2/z.

It's implemented as a char(40) ccsid(*hex) binary field - most probably including a MAC address or something else unique, like a GUID.

Hello,

I'm trying to grok the difference between an ordinary identity column and the RowID. I thought I had once seen a discussion in this list about that, but I can't find it in the archive through an appropriate Google search. What is this RowID compared to an ordinary identity column, and what would be typical use cases/benefits of using it instead of normal identity columns?

Also, more generic Google searches did not come up with helpful enlightenment regarding my question.

Thanks!
