Vern, in my experience, when ACS locks up where no window responds, there's no recovery other than to either let it eventually crash itself or go into Task manager and kill it there.
I currently have open a 5250 window, Printer Output window, RSS, IFS. Task manager shows:
. Launch of IBM I Access Client Solutions (32 bit)
.. Console Window Host
.. Launch of IBM I Access Client Solutions (32 bit)
I presume this indicates that one iteration of Java is running the whole ACS shebang.

Someone please confirm or deny - is there a single Java application handling everything in ACS? As Art and others have said, if 1 tool locks up, everything is dead. The only way I've had to get out is to click the red X in the upper right hand corner multiple times until it takes, then there is a window with some messages - I just click OK, I think, and fire up ACS again.
