Btw, be advised that Qlik bought Talend whose core business was especially data integration, ETL, CDC, they got plenty of scalable solutions for that.

I've used Talend (in the past was even open and free for the basic edition) to push data around from the i. Such solution produced basically jdbc/java jobs that - if one was so inclined - could be run directly from the IBMi as a job (and now, with the advanced scheduler being included, some light dependency polling scenario can be interesting).
Unfortunately, Qlik removed Talend Open from the site after purchasing the company (despite the community basically gave a lot of value/time in shaping the final product now license only).

In any case many times, to have full control and limiting the moving parts and enhancing data, I just used triggers to track the changes to log tables. Then with an ETL tool or custom program that records are sent/streamed wherever needed.
In other cases, where a "no impact" soft touch was needed, I seldom accessed directly the journal files to pick the changes there.
