Now before you think IBM merely says: "We don't like x, let's get rid of x" that would be silly.  They poll groups like LUG and other groups that they work with. They consider how many tickets are placed on the software which is a strong tell on if it's being used. They consider if the product or component even has value. An example of what is dropped in 7.6 is FRCA. That was a pretty cool and effective thing when announced but with all encrypted pages, it's now pointless, and removed. Other thing like DHCP and DNS were very rarely used and open source replacements are available.

Each of the removed components needed maintenance and patching to avoid exposures. If they aren't being used it clearly makes sense for IBM to add new functions and improve stuff we use rather than putting effort to maintain moribund features!
