Why the '-i' switch to ssh ?

One reason is if you like me have 20 private keys in the .ssh folder.

opensshd will by default deny more than 6 authentication tries, so if
my ssh tries the 6 wrong ones first before the right one ?

I prevent this by using the 'IdentitesOnly' and IdentityFile flag.

'-i' will i believe force ssh to use the selected private first before
the default ones.

UserKnownHostsfile can be set to 'none' and so forcing a accept of the
remote host every time.
