You got that right. This was one of the rare cases in which I asked the List *after* researching everything I could think of, and coming up blank.

I was hoping that there might be somebody here who'd encountered a similar situation before, and recognized it.

Thankfully, the relevant individual at the customer is working the problem (and may have noticed it before we told him about it), and my own analysis may have helped him.
