Thanks to everyone who replied. I've got what I need.

My question was pretty specific. I know what it takes and what it means to IPL. I know about the options for applying at different times. All I really needed was to be sure that there wasn't anything else I needed to do if applying a PTF delayed when the special instructions say to stop a server/subsystem. I was motivated to ask because sometimes the special instructions say, there is no further action is required if applying delayed with the next IPL.

PTFs?

Not an expert but that's what I do:If I need to "single PTFing" for very
particular cases and nasty bugs which IBM techs provided a fix for my support
request, just look at the requirements of the PTF in DSPPTF it would clearly
state if immediate or deferred at IPL.Otherwise if not in a rush for general
refresh I plan a window but I do all-ptf-groups with application at IPL.If you
need only the PTF for the http group is possible that you need to restart
apache and stuff in an online system...

Okay. I'm going to show some of my ignorance here.

If the special instructions for a PTF say to end a server and I use the following
command INSTPTF .... INSTYP(*DLYALL)

Then set up an IPL for the system, I'm thinking all the servers ended.? So the
PTF would then apply correctly?

Here's an example for PTF SJ06984, the special instructions say:

"End the QHTTPSVR subsystem before applying PTF."

Am I correct that an IPL effectively ends the subsystem?
