I understand the frustration with bind CVE's PTF's lagging.

I used the AI thing "what could be used to verify MX records" and got:

<AI>
In summary, while dig is a robust tool for DNS queries, nslookup, host, and various online MX lookup services provide excellent alternatives for verifying MX records.
</AI>

all three exist as a command and a PASE command but appear to be part of the licensed program 5770SS1 opt 31 "Domain Name System" .

maybe one of the on-line MX lookup services could be used as a web service API called from SQL. (sounds like a interesting expirement)

I don't have DIG. I do not load option the DNS server option part of IBM i
as I got tired of IBM lagging behind in updating that to the latest level
of bind and getting dinged by scanning services (including IBM) for running
obsolete versions of bind.
This is the reason, when I submitted a request for the sql service
dns_lookup, that they do NOT require that optional part of the OS.
