I have used pfsense/opensense (so the Netgate options), Cisco ASA, PANW and Unifi succesfully.

For my office I’ve fully migrated to the Unifi platform, it works well for my needs, but you’re only going to see the full advantages if you go all-in on the platform.

It deals well with both the 3907 and associated storage systems here, the Power systems and the vSphere cluster and tagging it all in VLANs and segregating admin/management vs user.

The VPN clients themselves can easily be integrated with EntraID to connect back into the network (under-the-hood they just use openvpn or wireguard), and I also get physical access control, CCTV and voice out of it.

I like the Cisco ASA firewalls.

I have also found their support to be very good.

Not entirely to IBM i topic, but one of our customers wonders what
firewall most IBM i shops actually use.
They are considering a change away from Meraki. It is easy to manage but
they are running into compatibility issues with VPN tunneling to their
customers.

Thoughts?
