Assuming you wish to have a solid message-passing infrastructure between
disparate systems, is there an "open-systems" approach to this
functionality?  The article mentioned the proprietary nature of
MQSeries, which is true, but it did not mention how the functionality
would be duplicated without it.  If it could be duplicated without
MQSeries, then wouldn't WebSphere also play in that arena?

This sounds more like marketing than a technical discussion.  I
particularly liked the subtitle "It won't operate with other systems,
says maker of other system...".  This may be like Microsoft accusing
other vendors of being proprietary.
