Actually, that sounds very cool. Don't get me wrong - I tend to be very optimistic and I think the things that have been done and are planned to be done by Mark Shearer, Malcolm, Peter Bingaman, etc. are great. I think we have the right people in place to help us fight the battle....but to get a down number and one of that side is disappointing. Heck I did my 825-570 upgrade in the fourth quarter.....:-) Aaron Bartell <albartell@gmail. com> To Sent by: Non-Technical Discussion about the midrange-nontech- AS400 / iSeries bounces@midrange. <midrange-nontech@xxxxxxxxxxxx> com cc Subject 01/18/2006 09:27 RE: iSeries down 18%? Ugh AM Please respond to Non-Technical Discussion about the AS400 / iSeries <midrange-nontech @midrange.com> On the flip side of the iSeries being down 18% I can see that IBM is trying to do something about it. In the past two months I have been having troubles with my iSeries timeshare vendor while trying to test some software I am developing. I was speaking with an IBM employee about my woes and they said I should look into their Virtual Loaner Program (VLP: http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/enable/site/vlp/). All I can say is WOW! It is basically a program that gives short time frame (two weeks to 4 weeks) access to high end machines located at IBM. You are given your very own machine with root access. You connect with VPN and then use your choice of 5250 emulators (tn5250j) and editors (WDSc 6.0) to do your testing/development. The best part it is pretty darn easy to setup and you gain access very quickly (sometimes less than an hour)! They even give you the ability to save an image of the entire machine so you can load it on subsequent reservations! Some might think this isn't that big of a deal because their company doesn't mind if they use their machine to do personal development, but now that I am off on my own I don't have that luxury and have had to look to timeshare machines. This really does a beautiful job of promoting the iSeries in the area of making sure developers all developers have access to the resources they need. Thoughts?
