Some years ago I made a graphical report for a department manager. She was belligerent towards me because I was so far off from the real data. I checked and rechecked and it looked right to me, but she kept on about it and finally left the office and went to her boss to complain about the nincompoop in the IT Department. He looked at the graph and said. :yeah, looks right to me. What is the problem?" She said "Look, if I am doing that great a job I should get a raise!" (although the way I heard the story she was way less courteous than that. )

He looked at her, said he agreed, and would see what he could do. A few days later she came in with a pan of cookies and a huge thank you. Apparently she'd gotten both a raise and a promotion. And my boss got a recognition for creating an environment where new stuff was being developed.

She and I shared a lot of laughs about that as time went on.

I'll start. I heard of a woman who called into customer support

Possibly apocryphal, but I did read this one many years ago.

A programmer happened to see a user respond to an ugly error message that showed up on her display -- "Not authorized to object." The user simply canceled and went back in to the next step.

Programmer sputters something like "Wait! What was that? How often does that happen?"

User: "It happens when I go through that last option. I do it every week."

Programmer: "Why didn't you tell someone? Why haven't you complained?"

User: "Well... it says I wasn't authorized to object..."
