When I launch my email client, it collects messages from ALL of my
subscribed message lists and conveniently organizes them in a manner that
I've specified, ready for my perusal. With web based forums, I have to visit
each one individually.

I use both, and find advantages and disadvantages to each. I find the email
service such as midrange.com to be less of a hassle, so I stay more current
with them. I check the messages that I've received from midrange.com on a
daily basis, whereas I don't usually bother logging into a web based forum
like System I Network for months at a time.
