Hi Steve,
I wrote an article on using Python on the iSeries for IT Jungle, and while
I prefer it to RPG (which I can barely write at all ), honestly, I'd go
with Java for just about any task unless you specifically like Python.

Advantages are that you can hire from a wider range of people, and people
seem to find Python easy to learn, but you could probably say the same
about Java. Even if you really liked Python, I'd probably still use Jython
in the JVM on iSeries, at least you've still got access to the wide range
of libraries available for the JVM.
