Thanks for your reply.

I'd assumed that if there was a fail with the column names in the
cur.description list, there would be no data - but in fact the data is fine
in the resultset, I just wasn't getting that far because accessing the
cur.description list was throwing an exception.

I'm already (optionally) going to SysColumns to get the labeltext, so I
might as well default getting the column names from there too.
