You do NOT have to build a Linux machine to use IPCop. In fact, you
cant. You download the ISO, burn it to a cd, put it in the pc that
will be the firewall and boot. It will load a specialized version of
the Linux kernel.

IPCop is just like any other firewall. It sits between your network
and the Internet.

So, if you don't have to build a Linux machine then is it kind of like
having a Linux emulator running under Windows? It sounds like it's still a
dedicated system so why not make the whole thing Linux? What are the
system requirements (OS, hardware, etc.)? I would also assume that it
doesn't have to be anything fancy.
