This seems to be a common problem Paul - although I have no idea why.

When we were at COMMON, Randy Munson had an embedded video that would only
show when he disconnected his laptop from the projector!  The rest of the
time it just showed a black screen.

Only thing I can think of is that it is related to a difference in the
resolution of the video and the current display setting.  Is there anything
in PowerPoint where you set such things?

Have you asked the question on the free MS forums?  I only get a 50% hit
rate there - but they have been helpful with some Office related topics.
