Hi David -

The only time I would consider using a software firewall when I'm behind a router is if I don't trust the other computers that are behind the router with me.

I use one even though I'm on my own LAN so I know if any software on my PC is trying to "phone home".


It also stops the crap coming from computers at work when I'm connected in via the VPN. My Linux firewall/router can't stop that because the traffic is encapsulated in VPN packets.
