1. Boot without the port expander.
2. Plug in the port expander.
3. In Device Manager, delete the drivers for everything related to the
expander.
4. Unplug the expander.
5. Re-plug it in. If auto-detect fails, reboot instead.

This should force Windows to re-load the drivers. If they were
corrupted before, hopefully this will fix it.

I would also recommend getting the latest drivers from the expander
manufacturer's web site.

Subject: [PCTECH] Blue-Screen problem on Dell Laptop

I have a Dell mobile workstation (Latitude Precision M60) running XP Pro
that works just fine when running stand-alone...

If I cold-boot it on the port expander/desktop adapter, it will
blue-screen with an error indicating that there is a problem with a
driver.
(sorry - don't have all of the details right now)

However, if I first boot it up, _then_ mount it on the port
expander/desktop adapter while it is running, it doens't blue-screen.

What gives?

Please, Please, Please:
Even though I have a support contract, Don't tell me to call Dell
technical support. They SUCK!

Regards,
Steve
