Yes.  Unless specifically disabled, pretty much anything g will fall
back to b.

In theory, yes.  But in practicality, you use it more to pick which WLAN
to jump on to more than anything else.

In XP, use either the XP util or manufacturer util to browse available
WLANs; try to connect from there.  You may just need to create a
wireless profile for the home WLAN.
