Fiber will require more expense in making connections (hard to do it yourself!) and in buying the network gear. It won't carry an electrical charge, which could be a consideration in Tampa! Haven't found too many laptops (or desktops for that matter) with fiber connections. Some of the surround sound amps are using fiber for digital audio.

Over the short run (<100m), copper is keeping up speed wise (1GB and such). But fiber can carry more total information and can run farther.

So, use fiber for connecting wiring closets and buildings.

My question is: Fiber-optic vs. Cable - if they are about the same price, is it a good move to go for the fiber-optic? Will I see a great difference?
