Greetings -

I have an Excel spreadsheet of employee numbers. I would like to retrieve
the employee's name and address from a file on our iSeries. I have tried to
install the Excel XLODBC.XLA add-in but it is only available for versions up
to 2002 - I am using Excel 2003. I have also tried using SQL.REQUEST and
that holds some promise but I can't get past a #VALUE! error using the
following as a cell entry:

=SQL.REQUEST("DSN=EMPXL", A2, 1, "Select EMPNAME from EMPFILE WHERE EMPNBR
= 123456789", TRUE)

EMPXL is the name of the iSeries Access ODBC driver on my PC. I can
retrieve all records from EMPFILE using it. In this case, I only want
certain records matching the employee numbers in the spreadsheet. I'm not
locked in to SQL.REQUEST but need to use some method which is readily
available (no vendors, please!) to the normal Excel user.

Excel 2003, OS/400 V5R2, Win XP.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Steve
