John, per your comments below, I have the paid version of the WindowsSecrets
newsletter, went online and searched the paid version of the content, but
was unable to find any article mentioning a replacement for Microsoft's
Wireless Network Connection.

Do you recall how far back you saw that article?  The only hit on "Wireless
Network Connection" (with double quotes) turned up the January 26, 2006
issue, but it only talked about a vulnerability (what MS calls a feature!)
of creating an ad-hoc network under certain conditions without you knowing
about it.  Searching on the same terms without the double quotes gave 44
hits, but none of the summaries indicated that they were talking about
"Wireless Network Connection".
