Be careful how you ask this question, Dan.  You may incur the wrath of the
"social organismists" (a word I just now made up).  In general, the
Wikipedia is looked upon as one of THE standards by which you can measure
the overall accuracy of a social network.  The Wikipedia is "vetted" by
the
community; if someone posts something wrong, someone else will fix it.

In regard to things technical, or "neutrally factual", the Wikipedia does
a
pretty good job overall.  I use it much like you do; I get initial
information and then do my own verification.  I've found its data to be
pretty darned accurate.

Things that are more political or ideological in nature can be somewhat
more
biased.
