ZA probably doesn't have anything to do with it unless you've blocked
the auto update app. With Auto Update enabled, you should get the
updates .. eventually. It may take a day or two, but I've never seen
them not come through. Auto update is a low priority task and does some
things to minimize it's impact on your 'net connection and possibly on
MS's server farm.

If you have the update icon in your system tray, hover the mouse over it
and see if it notes a % complete for downloading.

Of course, some companies block Windows Update at the firewall to
eliminate the massive bandwidth triggered by many PCs downloading
updates at the same time. Those companies generally use some other
service like SUS to push updates to workstations so the updates are only
downloaded from MS once and are then pushed to the clients as, for
instance, they log on to the LAN in the morning.

Subject: [PCTECH] latest critical fix and automatic updates

Thru various web sources (zdnet, etc) MS issued "critical" fixes
Tuesday. Since Tue my desktop did it's automatic updates & prompted me
to reboot. I did. Later (same day)I went to Windows Update site to check
my pc, and there was the whole list 8 security fixes, including the
critical update.
If Automatic Updates is configured to "download and prompt for reboot",
why would it not get what's out there?
Is Automatic Update not reliable?
I checked with another programmer (diff site) - had same problem.
I run Zone Alarm, he does not...
