Couple options. Use VPN, if you are connecting to work. After that
everything is secure. If this is for personal use and an really worried,
there is VPN type options that you can pay for or setup a VPN server at
home. If you look at the "Am I secure?" thread that is also happening, I
have put in a bunch of URLs for Security Now Podcast (think downloadable
talk show). They are VERY informative. They talk about just what you are
worried about.

Is there any way I can be sure that no one will be able to sniff, hack or
otherwise compromise my pc, if I enter the neighborhood Panera which
offers free wi-fi access, and I connect to their wi-fi signal?

My wireless adapter for use at home is configured to use 128 bit WEP (and
I know my home config would be useless at Panera). Without authorization
from the cafe, is there a way to enforce the WEP/WAP?

What do folks on the road do, who encounter this dilema?
