Not quite realtime ... but every few hours.

I have heard there is a way to specify how often Google indexes a 
site, but I don't recall where that is off the top of my head.

That's Google sitemaps
(https://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/siteoverview) ... but they
are just advisory ... I submitted a sitemap and it really hasn't helped
much.
