Hi Jon,

        I had a similar problem with a new battery in my IBM Thinkpad.  I
finally unplugged it and ran it completely down and apparently it fixed it.
It was only 1 year old when the original battery failed.

I have the same problem with my old laptop (a Sony VAIO if that
matters). 

Interestingly Scott - so is mine!  The only difference is that this
brand-new battery never went above 69% charged from day 1.

Will let you know what I discover.
