Windows tools for regedit and ad ware?

What are good tools to use now? Preferably free or nearly so.

What I am finding is that the vendors of the programs are misleading in their ads. They talk about free, but when it comes time to do the work, they say no, not until you pay.

So, if I need to pay, then I want to know what are the good ones.

Any suggestions?
