Certainly from the 32x and higher CD-R days LiteOn has been a strong
player. Good quality drives at a good price although sometimes the
drives are louder than the competition. The burners I have at home are
a few years old and still work fine. I've less experience with Samsung
optical units but have heard decent stuff about them. DVD-wise, I
personally pay the Pioneer premium. Pioneer has been doing optical
technology for about 30 years.
