If the motherboard can handle then it should work. The question is "how
easy is it to get to the CPU without breaking something?". (At home) I
don't typically upgrade CPU's because I'm usually shuffling the whole PC
to someone with a lesser machine. The last one in the chain typically
gets retired. Some parts of laptops are accessable but is that the case
with CPU's? I haven't opened up a lot of laptops so I can't really say.
More memory might give you more bang for the buck and be easier to get to.
