Folks:
For those of us with Laptops, I've found a very handy utility that can
extended the power of batteries.
It's SpeedswitchXP at
http://www.diefer.de/speedswitchxp/index.html
Basically, the utility applies much more aggressive throttling logic to
the CPU to lower the power consumption based on use.
On my Dell Inspiron 600m (2ghz) and two 6 cell batteries, I can get 8
hours of use. The utility has lowered the clock speed on the system to
only 88mhz on a regular basis.
It's open source, although it hasn't been updated in a number of months.
