Open Office works for me and has been my word processor for several
years. It does every thing I want to do, and keeps me off the MS
Hamster Wheel.

Today a friend is telling me I'll love the new Lotus Symphony, which is
also free.

Any comments/experience with Symphony?

I wrote about it here. It's definitely beta code, and has a ways to go, but
it's a great concept. It's Eclipse-based, which has pluses and minuses, but
all in all there's a lot of potential. I especially like tabbing between
documents and spreadsheets.
