Also look into the Nokia N810. They call it and internet tablet and is
also
powered by Linux. It does WiFi and is not a phone (although you can do
Skype
on it). It appears to be about the size a phone so may not be quite what
you
are looking for. I know a bunch of people offering it for $50 off right
now
with a coupon code, if you are interested.

The iPhone is cool. I've pretty much concluded that if you want
multimedia you should get an iPhone. If you want your phone to do e-mail
you should get a Blackberry. If you want it for calendar & other apps you
should get a Palm. I've been using a Palm for years and the calendar is
the most important feature to me so I went that route and chose a
slightly-used Keyocera 7135. I prefer flip-phones, which this is, and I
wasn't forced to give up Verizon. I stlll like my iPod as a separate
device.

I was going to mention the N810 but you beat me to it. I've heard some
good things about it on various podcasts. If I traveled more I might
consider one but if I'm going to be in one spot for more than 10 minutes I
prefer a laptop. Here's one place to get a discount with the code "daily
source code":
