Well, I've been using Teleblend since it rose from the ashes of SunRocket. With appropriate taxes for Illinois it runs $15.75 a month for unlimited local/long distance/etc. I'm not 100% sure I can recommend it, though, as of late I've had a few minor issues with call disconnects. I am not sure if the issues are with my Comcast connection, the Teleblend hardware (they're supporting the SunRocket VOIP modems & mine is now a few years old), or Teleblend itself. If I had free time I'd check into it but at the moment it's not annoying enough for me to bother.

Maybe after the election when the robocalls die down I'll make an effort to nail it down. (hints to politicians: 1. If I want to know about your platform I can look you up; you don't need to call me. 2. I'm on the do not call list; I'd rather vote for the candidate who respects this than the one who uses the loophole to call anyway. 3. Having a machine attempt to give me your message does not garner any favor with me.)

For anyone using Comcast's digital phone service, does the bandwidth used for phone service get charged against your monthly quota?

Subject: [PCTECH] VOIP service?

Can anyone recommend VOIP service, other than Vonage?

Don't get me wrong ... I really like the Vonage service ... but the news I keep hearing about the company has me somewhat distressed. I'd like to have a backup plan that I'm ready to put into place if/when Vonage goes belly up.

I've already heard about AT&T's CallVantage service ... which, according to a friend, isn't bad but they have some odd policies where you have to listen to a disclaimer about E911 service before making any calls ... this disclaimer is played ANYTIME your service is disconnected ... even if it's for just a fraction of second. The policy, apparently, came from AT&T legal ... because they don't know if you've moved the phone or not ... so they want to warn you about the limitations of E911 service. My friends service was somewhat spotty, so he ended up getting the disclaimer played to him every other day or so.
