I did modify you suggestion to the below, and somehow a "Click" happened in my brain, and I came up with this, and it worked..

Thanks for your suggestion and help.
Dim varDocType As MailMerge
Set varDocType = MailMergeDocument.MailMerge
If Not varDocType.State = wdMainAndHeader Then
SkipDocumentPrint = True
ShowMessage FileName, ".doc is not a mailmerge document", "**"
Documents.Close (wdDoNotSaveChanges)
Exit Sub
End If

Darrell,

Sorry I haven't replied, I haven't been in the office for 2 weeks. Just a point of programming: I had named the new variable varDocType, which should have been typed as a Variant. This would allow any type of value to be plugged into the variable since you were getting inconsistent results with the code between PC's. What you've done is fine, it's just a bit confusing; the variable should probably been named mmDocType as you've written it. This all doesn't affect much, just an FYI.

Since you haven't replied in a week now does that mean that you've found the problem?

Bill
